BEDFORD, TEXAS, June 17, 2014 – Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Hurst-Euless-Bedford has been recognized by Premier, Inc. with a QUEST® Award for High-value Healthcare Citation of Merit for delivering high-quality, cost-effective health care.

            Texas Health HEB received the award from Premier, the country’s largest health care performance improvement alliance, for achieving top performance in four of the six areas measured in Premier’s QUEST collaborative, including harm, mortality, readmissions, costs, patient experience and evidence-based care. The hospital was honored during Premier’s annual Breakthroughs Conference and Exhibition in San Antonio on June 11.

            “This is a great tribute to the employees and physicians of Texas Health HEB,” said Deborah Paganelli, FACHE, hospital president. “They are committed to applying lessons learned from hospitals around the country to improving care for the people in the community we’re privileged to serve.”

            Specifically, Texas Health HEB is being recognized for:

  • Obtaining a mortality rate at least 15 percent less than expected;
  • Reliably delivering all evidence-based care measures to patients in the areas of heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia and surgical care at least 95 percent of the time;
  • Improving the hospital experience so that patients favorably rate their stay and would recommend the facility to others at least 73 percent of the time; and
  • Reducing preventable harm events.

            “We are encouraged by the way our collaborative effort with other high-performing hospitals has helped us reach higher levels of performance in key areas,” said Susann Land, M.D., chief medical officerfor Texas Health HEB.

                QUEST is a performance improvement collaborative of approximately 350 hospitals working to make healthcare safer, more efficient and consistently effective. Approximately 330 QUEST hospitals were eligible for the QUEST Award for High-value Healthcare. Texas Health HEB was one of 116 collaborative participants to achieve top performance in at least four of the six areas measured.

The nation’s leading hospitals created QUEST to set new standards in health care that ensure the delivery of high-quality, cost-effective care. In five and a half years, they have saved more than 136,000 lives and $11.6 billion, according to Premier.

            Nine Texas Health hospitals, including Texas Health HEB, received awards recognizing leadership in accelerating care quality and cost improvements among the approximately 3,000 leading health systems and hospitals that comprise the Premier alliance.

            “We value this recognition our hospitals have achieved through our collaboration with Premier,” said Douglas D. Hawthorne, FACHE, CEO of Texas Health Resources. “As Texas Health strives to transform the delivery of health care in North Texas, we treasure the ability to share our knowledge and experiences with nationally benchmarked health systems through our participation in the Premier alliance.”
