Texas Health Springwood Receives Quality Award from BCBS

BEDFORD, TEXAS, April 14, 2015 Texas Health Springwood Behavioral Health Hospital HEB is the only facility in the nation to receive a $10,000 incentive for meeting 100 percent of the quality measures in Blue Cross Blue Shield’s (BCBS’s) quality initiative for the Federal Employee Program.

Texas Health Springwood Behavioral Health HEB, a premier provider of behavioral health care that is an affiliate of Texas Health Resources, was one of only 20 health organizations invited to participate in the program and the only one to receive the full payout incentive.

The quality measure required patients insured by the BCBS Federal Employee Program to have a follow-up appointment seven days after discharge and not be readmitted for 30 days.

“The requirement not only included scheduling appointments with the patients and the physicians within the seven-day time frame, but patients had to show up for their appointments,” said Ron Rains, director of Texas Health Springwood Behavioral Health HEB. “Patients keeping their follow-up appointments are far less likely to be readmitted within 30 days, thus improving outcomes.”

Behavioral health facilities were chosen to participate based on the high volume of patients covered under the Federal Employee Program, said Ramona Osburn, FACHE, senior vice president of behavioral health for Texas Health Resources.

“It is all about managing a population and improving outcomes,” Osburn said. Out of the 20 facilities selected nationwide, 15 participated and five received a portion of the quality incentive. Texas Health Springwood Behavioral Health HEB was the only facility in the country to achieve 100 percent of the quality measures.

“This speaks very highly of our staff and their dedication, expertise and abilities to create better outcomes for patients,” said Deborah Paganelli, FACHE, president of Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Hurst-Euless-Bedford upon whose campus the behavioral health hospital is located. “I am extremely proud of the staff and their accomplishments.”

Texas Health Springwood Behavioral Health HEB offers a full range of inpatient, outpatient and partial hospitalization services for adolescents age 12 to 17 and adults 18 and older. The hospital is part of Texas Health Behavioral Health, the leading behavioral health care provider in North Texas. Texas Health Behavioral Health facilities are Centers of Excellence for the treatment of behavioral health. Counseling and treatment are offered at four hospitals and 11 outpatient centers located throughout the Metroplex.
