Texas Health HEB Designated as
Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology

Third North Texas hospital to earn prestigious designation

BEDFORD, TEXAS, July 31, 2015 Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital Hurst-Euless-Bedford was recently designated as a Center of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology (COEMIG). The designation is focused on promoting high standards of care in minimally invasive gynecology. Texas Health HEB is one of only three facilities in North Texas that have attained the designation.

To earn the distinction, Texas Health HEB and Kevin O’Neil, M.D., completed a critical review process, met stringent requirements for safety and efficacy, and are recognized as leaders in the field by the American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists and the Surgical Review Corporation.

The designation helps expand patient education, awareness and access to minimally invasive gynecological procedures, according to O’Neil, an obstetrician and gynecologist on Texas Health HEB’s medical staff who serves as the hospital’s COEMIG program director. O’Neil initiated the process and earned the COEMIG designation as a Surgeon of Excellence in Minimally Invasive Gynecology.

“When patients see the COEMIG seal, they know they are getting quality care,” said O’Neil. The COEMIG designation helps patients and insurance companies identify facilities and surgeons who have adopted stringent standards of care, safety, efficacy and optimal outcomes, and are leaders in the field.

“The COEMIG designation is an on-going process that promotes continued improvement of the hospital's minimally invasive gynecology program, by helping ensure everyone involved is dedicated to excellence,” said Susann Land, M.D., Texas Health HEB chief medical officer. “By complying with COEMIG requirements, we demonstrate our commitment and ability to consistently deliver quality minimally invasive gynecologic surgical care.”

“It’s truly an honor to be designated as a COEMIG facility,” said Deborah Paganelli, president of Texas Health HEB. "The COEMIG designation validates our hardworking staff’s commitment to caring for our patients with advanced practices and reinforces our role as a leader in innovative health care.”
