MARY POPPINS, the practically perfect musical, comes to Southlake this summer.    STARS Theater Company’s production of the beloved story is scheduled for July 15-17 & 22-24 at The Marq, located at 285 Shady Oaks, in Southlake. 

Performance dates and times are:

Staged within a giant storybook, the P. L. Travers classic tale, MARY POPPINS, comes to life.  Everyone’s favorite chimney sweep, Bert, introduces theatergoers to England in 1910 and the troubled Banks family.  Their children, Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep.  With her special combination of magic and common sense, Mary teaches George Banks and his family how to value each other again.  MARY POPPINS is a delightful story for children of all ages. 

 

STARS’ production of MARY POPPINS stars several local young people.   Heading up the cast in the role of Mary Poppins is Soutthlake resident Jennifer Howe.  Bert is played by Kirk Zanetti George Banks is played by Jack Callahan of Southlake and Winifred is played by Cathryn D’Amore of Keller.  The children, Jane and Michael, are played by Kristina Miller of Arlington and Joel Smith from Southlake.

THE MAGICAL LAND OF OZ comes to life with STARS Theater Company, in Bedford.  STARS will present the fresh musical adaptation of L. Frank Baum’s classic story for one weekend only beginning Friday, May 13 at 7:30 p.m. The production features several area young people. Performances will be at Scott Hall located in The First United Methodist Church of Bedford located at 1245 Bedford Road.

 “MAGICAL LAND OF OZ” is wonderful family entertainment.” said STARS Director, Lu Anne Tyson, “The story of Oz is my all-time favorite for kids because it teaches them to look beyond all the “what if” and “if only’ thoughts that keep them from their dreams.  The wizard teaches kids to believe in themselves.”

 When the story opens, Dorothy's house squashes the Wicked Witch of the East.   Along with her dog Toto, she sets out on a magical adventure.  She is joined by new friends Scarecrow, Cowardly Lion and Tin Woodsman, and together they follow the yellow brick road to find the great Oz.  Trouble ensues when they cross paths with the Wicked Witch of the West, but together they overcome her evil power.  The musical score is full of upbeat songs including “I Got the Power”, “Follow the Road,” and “Sing, Sing Everybody.”

 Several local young people are featured in the production.  Dorothy and her friends Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion are played by Bedford resident Emmy Irvin, Southlake resident, Emma Mann, Euless residents Matthew Foster and Keller resident, Kamryn Vucina.  Kristina Miller from Arlington plays the Wicked Witch and the Wizard of Oz is played by Grapevine resident, Carolina Paredes.   Glinda the Good is played by Keller resident Carson Hawkins and rounding out the cast are the Munchkins; Caitlyn and Greg Breslin of Trophy Club, Rhiana and Kaya Bullock of Haltom City, Emerson Hodges of Bedford, Rilely and Ella Hutchens of Grapevine, Lily McIlvain of Hurst, Emily Ruggles of Euless; and Mia Neeley of Haltom City as Toto. 

The production is directed by Lu Anne Tyson of Hurst with choreography by Sue Hurst of Grapevine and vocal direction by Vicki Keller of Arlington.

STARS Theater Company announces auditions for MARY POPPINS, Saturday, February 20, 12:30pm-4:30pm.  Auditions will be held at the Community Building of the First United Methodist Church in Bedford, 2012 Shady Brook in Bedford, 76021. 

All roles will be played by young people.  Interested students age 8-teens are encouraged to audition for the cast of delightful characters including Mary Poppins, Bert, George, Winifred, Michael, Jane, and all their friends at 17 Cherry Lane.  

STARS is an educational theater with 22 years of experience in Northeast Tarrant County.  The production will be directed by Lu Anne Tyson with voice and dance instruction by Vicki Keller and Sue Hurst.  Performances are scheduled in July.

STARS Theater Company announces youth auditions for children ages 8-12.  Auditions for STARS’ production of MAGICAL LAND OF OZ will be Saturday, February 6 from 9am-noon at the First United Methodist Church in Bedford, Community Building located at 2012 Shady Brook in Bedford, 76021.  All interested student are encouraged to audition.  Performances are scheduled for May 13-15.

L. Frank Baum’s classic story comes to life on the Bedford stage with Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, Lion, Wicked Witch, Glinda and of course the Wizard.  All the delightful characters from this fun filled story will sing and dance their way to the Emerald City with the musical score full of upbeat songs such as “I’ve Got The Power,” and “Follow The Road.”

STARS Theater Company announces the 2015 Winter Musical, Walt Disney’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, Jr.   Performances are January 8-10 and 15-17 at Tarrant County College Northeast Campus.   Friday and Saturday performances are at 7:30pm and Sunday matinees are at 3:00pm.

The captivating cartoon characters and mesmerizing music made popular by the Walt Disney movie come to life in this delightful retelling of the beloved story.  Who can forget Lumiere, Mrs. Potts, Cogswoth, and the gang singing “Be Our Guest” or the charming love song “Beauty and the Beast.”

Belle and the Beast will be played Jennifer Howe of Southlake and Kirk Zanetti of Plano.   Lumiere, Babette, Cogsworth, and Madame De La Grande, the Wardrobe, will be played by Saginaw resident Taylor Johnson, Cathryn D’Amore from Keller, Pierson Van den Dyssel from Southlake, and Lauren Raymond from Grand PrairieMegan Elizabeth Sickels of Arlington will play the enchanting Mrs. Potts.

The production is directed by Hurst resident, Lu Anne Tyson, with vocal direction by Vicki Keller from Arlington and choreography by Sue Hurst from Grapevine.   STARS’ production of Disney’s BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, Jr. is packed with stunning costumes and delightful music.

STARS Theater Company will present CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG, June 19-21 and 26-28 at Tarrant County College Northeast Campus in Hurst.  CHITTY will be the 21st annual summer musical presented by the local theater group. 

STARS’ production of CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG stars several local young people.   Heading up the cast in the role of Caracatus Potts is Saginaw resident Taylor Johnson and in the role of Truly Scrumptions is Kendall Cannon of Grapevine.  The nutty Grandpa Potts is played by Jack Callahan of Southlake.  The children, Jeremy and Jemima, are played by Southlake residents Joel Smith and Emma Mann.   Kirk Zanetti of Plano will play the evil Baron and his Baroness is played by Megan Elizabeth Sickels of Euless.

Based on the children's book by James Bond author Ian Fleming, CHITTY CHITTY BANG BANG tells the story of the loveable, eccentric inventor, Caractacus Potts as he sets out to restore an old race car from a scrap heap with the help of his children Jeremy and Jemima. They soon discover the car has magical powers including the ability to float and take flight. Trouble ensues when the evil Baron Bomburst desires the magic car for himself. The family joins forces with Truly Scrumptious and batty Grandpa.  An evil childcatcher, caring toymaker, and a gang of determined children join the chaos to complete the family outwits the evil Baron.   Sing along to the upbeat score including Roses of Success, Me Ol' Bamboo, and the theme song, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.  A delightful adventure for children of all ages.

STARS Theater Company Joins ONSTAGE in Bedford for a Musical Safari With Disney’s JUNGLE BOOK.

Students ages 7-12 are invited to a summer musical safari with Disney’s JUNGLE BOOK KIDS.  This special adaptation for kids includes all the favorite Disney tunes from the classic film including “The Bare Necessities” and “I Wan’na Be Like You.”

With the help of Bagheera, the panther, Mowgli, the jungle boy, is on his way out of the jungle and away from the ferocious Shere Khan.   Along their journey, they meet a snake named Kaa, a herd of elephants, and – of course – Baloo the bear.  Add a band of monkeys and the jungle is just jumpin’ with junior thespians. 

Camp instructors are Lu Anne Tyson, STARS Theater Company Director and Vicki Keller, STARS Theater Company Voice Instructor.  Both teachers have master’s degrees in their respective fields and are professional performers.  Students will spend their days in the jungle acting, singing and dancing.  Throw in a little costuming, makeup, and set construction and you have a full week of fun in the jungle of make believe.

The musical theater camp is scheduled for July 6-10, 9:00am – 5:00pm.  The cost for the one week camp is $225 plus a $30 registration fee.   Camp will be held at ONSTAGE in Bedford located in the Bedford Boys Ranch Park, 2801 Forest Ridge Drive, Bedford, TX  76021

Join Ariel and her friends under the sea in Disney’s THE LITTLE MERMAID.  Your favorite characters and songs from the Disney movie come to life in STARS Theater Company’s production of Disney’s THE LITTLE MERMAID Jr. scheduled for January 9-11 and 16-18 at Tarrant County College Northeast Campus located at 828 Harwood Rd in Hurst.

A magical underwater kingdom, sets the stage for the modern adaptation of Hans Christian Anderson’s beloved tale.   The beautiful young mermaid, Ariel, longs to leave her ocean home, and her fins, behind to live in the world above.   Her friends Flounder and Sebastian stand by her as she defies her father King Triton, makes a deal with the evil sea witch Ursula, and tries to convince the handsome Prince Eric that she’s the girl of his dreams.  The musical score includes popular songs such as “Part of Your World” and “Under The Sea.”

Ariel and Prince Eric will be played by Saginaw residents Bailey Brewer and Taylor Johnson.  Kirk Zanetti from Plano will play Sebastian and the role of Flounder will be played by Pierson van den Dyssel from Southlake.  Other local cast members include Alexander Deras from Hurst as King Triton, Megan Walsh from Southlake as Scuttle, and Grapevine resident Jonathan Neiman as he evil sea witch, Ursula.

ONSTAGE in Bedford and STARS Theater Company are joining together to offer TRAVELLING TALES, an acting troupe for kids ages 7-12.  Children will study staging, projection, characterization, focus, and comic timing while producing a classic children’s story.  The company will perform for local children.
