Kids and teens will take the stage the stage this fall as STARS Theater Company opens their 27th Fall & Winter Season.  STARS is an educational theater for young people ages 8-12 and teens.  Young performers and students interested in performing are invited to join the STARS for their upcoming productions of Disney’s ALADDIN Jr and THE VELVETEEN RABBIT.

Auditions are scheduled for Saturday, August 7 and all interested students are encouraged to attend.  According to Director, Lu Anne Tyson, "We are here to teach.  If you're interested in acting come out and join us.  New students are always welcome."

 Students ages 8-12 audition for Velveteen Rabbit at 9:00am.  Performances are scheduled for December 3-5, 2021.

 Teens audition for Disney's ALADDIN Jr at 12:30pm.  Performances are scheduled for January 7-9 & 15-16, 2022

STARS Theater Company meets at the Community Building behind the FUMC Bedford located at 2012 Shady Brook in Bedford.  

Disney’s ALADDIN Jr is based on the 1992 award winning film about the “diamond in the rough” who learns that his true worth lies deep within.  Aladdin and his three friends, Babkak, Omar, and Kassim, are down on their luck until Aladdin discovers a magic lamp.  The “all powerful” Genie ready to grant three wishes appears and Aladdin’s wonderful adventure begins. Hoping to earn the respect of the princess, Jasmine, he embarks on a journey that will test his will and his moral character.  All the favorite characters join in the fun including Jafar, Iago, and the Sultan. The musical score includes favorite songs from the movie.   With plenty of roles for both male and female actors, experienced young performers and those new to the stage will enjoy “a whole new world” at STARS Theater Company.

The musical THE VELVETEN RABBIT is based on the classic story of a stuffed toy rabbit made real by a child’s enduring love.  When the little boy announces his Velveteen Rabbit is real, the Nursery Magic Fairy turns this love into a miracle.  Young actors ages 8-12 bring to life all the toys in the closet.  The musical score includes songs such as Nursery Magic, An Ordinary Rabbit, and Ballad of the Mechanical Toys.  All roles will be played by young people.

STARS Theater Company joins Mid Cities Montessori to bring kids ages 7-12 a summer of musical theater fun.    The thrill of the stage awaits as the young actors spend their days acting, singing, and dancing in preparation a final performance at the end of each session.  Camp classes will be held at the Mid Cities Montessori located at 209 Harwood Rd. in Bedford. 

 

July 5-16, travel to THE MAGICAL LAND OF OZ with Dorothy, Toto, Scarecrow, Tinman, and Lion.  Meet the Munchkins, the Wizard and of course the Wicked Witch on Dorothy’s amazing adventure to find her way home.

 

July 19-30, the summer adventures continue as boys and girls sail the high seas with a motley crew of scallywags in PIRATES.  Shiver me timbers!  There’s a stowaway on board, but perhaps the King of the High “C’s” will know what to do.  Don’t miss out on the fun and join STARS Theater Company for a Summer of Musical Theater and Magical Adventures.

 

Each camp session runs for two weeks, Monday – Friday, 9:00am-4:00pm.  The musical theater camp will be directed by STARS Theater Company, Director, Lu Anne Tyson and vocal instructor, Danielle Blake, musical teacher at International Leadership Texas.

STARS Theater Company opens their 27th Season with youth auditions for OKLAHOMA and SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK LIVE, JR.  STARS Theater Company is an educational theater for young people ages 8-18. All interested students are encouraged to join the auditions on Saturday, February 6, at the Community Building, 2012 Shady Brook in Bedford.

SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK LIVE, JR is based on the Emmy Award-winning 1970s Saturday morning cartoon series that taught history, grammar, math and science through clever tunes teaching a new generation to “Unpack Your Adjectives” and “Do The Circulations”.   All roles will be played by kids.  Performances of SCHOOLHOUSE ROCK LIVE, JR are currently scheduled for May 7-9.

 

The Rodgers and Hammerstein classic, OKLAHOMA was the first musical written by the famous duo.  The popular romantic story is set in the Oklahoma territory in the early 1900s.  The musical has lots of roles great for teens including: the handsome farmhand Curley and his love interest Laurey; the delightfully flirtatious Ado Annie and her boyfriend Will; the hired hand Jud Fry, the peddler man Ali Hakam, everyone’s favorite Aunt Eller, and a host of townfolk.   The musical OKLAHOMA, has an award-winning score including “Oh, What a Beautiful Morning”, “Cain’t Say No”, and of course, “Oklahoma.”

The mask has been a part of performing since the beginning of theater and it has made a big come back in 2020.  It may be a little different today, but STARS Theater Company is embracing the new face covering and rounding out 2020 season of educational theater with two great musicals for young people ages 8-12 and teens.  STARS final shows of the season are two great comedies, WAY OUT WEST IN A DRESS, and THE EMPRESS’ NEW CLOTHES.  Auditions are scheduled for Saturday, August 1 at the Community Building, First United Methodist Church in Bedford, 2012 Shady Brook, Bedford.

Teenagers audition for WAY OUT WEST IN A DRESS, 12:30pm-4:30pm

Teen actors will enjoy the hilarious WAY OUT WEST IN A DRESS.  The story opens with a travelling acting company down on their luck.  The group leader receives a letter from his late aunt stating he has inherited the Lucky Lady Saloon.  The group heads to Lucky Lady, Nevada to take over the saloon.  When they arrive, they realize there has been a little misunderstanding.  Rather than inheriting the Lucky Lady Saloon, he has inherited the Lucky Lady Salon.   As you can imagine, the story is packed with mistaken identities and comical confusion.  With an upbeat score and laughs on every page, teens will have a blast learning acting, singing, dancing and comic timing.   Plenty of male and female roles are available and all roles will be played by young people.  Performances are scheduled for January 8-10 & 15-17.

Young actors ages 8-12 will want to join in on the fun in THE EMPRESS’ NEW CLOTHES.   The story is a comical retelling of the classic tale with a fun twist.  THE EMPRESS’ NEW CLOTHES was originally scheduled to performed in May, but it was postponed due to Covid-19.   Although several of the cast are returning, we still have great roles available for both boys and girls.  The upbeat score includes songs such as There Was An Empress, and Magic Cloth.  Performances of THE EMPRESS’ NEW CLOTHES are scheduled for the end of September or as soon as we can bring our audience and actors together safely. 

The safety of our students is our priority and STARS’ staff is taking precautions to protect our young actors during this time.   We wear face coverings including masks or face shields and the room is cleaned and disinfected before and after rehearsals.  STARS is an educational theater celebrating over 25 years in northeast Tarrant County.  As always, all roles will be played by young people.  Rehearsals are the 1st & 3rd Saturdays of each month and tuition is $100 per month.  Students study acting, singing, and dancing with STARS professional staff.  For information or audition materials call 817-925-1430.  www.STARSTheaterCompany.org

The musical based on the MGM movie includes popular songs such as Somewhere Over The Rainbow, If I Only Had A Brain, and Magical Land Of Oz.  Performances are scheduled for June 19-21 & 26-28.

With a cast of beloved characters and a score including songs such as Love Is An Open Door, For the First Time in Forever, and Let It Go, this story of true love and acceptance between sisters is sure to thaw even the coldest heart! 

Heading the cast is Lauren Raymond from Grand Prairie and Kristina Miller from Arlington in the roles of Elsa and her sister Anna.  Kristoff is played by Ethan Kille from Fort Worth and his sidekick Sven is played by Patrick Blake also from Fort Worth.   Hans is played by Jackson Arnold from Keller, and Olaf is played by Rhianna Bullock from North Richland Hills.

STARS Theater Company presents THE BIG BAD MUSICAL, December 6-8 at Scott Hall in Bedford.  Performances are Friday & Saturday at 7pm and Sunday at 3pm. 

In this hilarious courtroom comedy, the notorious Big Bad Wolf is slapped with a class-action lawsuit by some of storybook land’s most famous citizens:  Little Red Riding Hood, Grandmother, The Three Little Pigs, the Shepherd, and the Boy Who Cried Wolf.  With Sydney Grimm as the commentator, the two greatest legal minds in the Enchanted Forest -the Evil Stepmother and the Fairy Godmother- clash in a trial that will be remembered forever after.

This wacky musical fairy tale is full of toe-tapping fun.  With a delightful score including the songs “He Huffed and He Puffed,” ”I Cried Wolf,” and “Have Mercy On Me”, you’ll be toe-tapping, humming along, and dancing in the aisles throughout this enchanting tale. 

Heading up the cast is Big Bad himself played by Patrick Blake from Fort Worth.  The two attorneys Evil Stepmother and Fairy Godmother are played by Lucy Toller from Arlington and Kaya Bullock from Haltom City.   Judge Wise Old Man played by Fort Worth resident, David Blake, tries his best to keep the courtroom in order, but with the wacky cast of characters he has his hands full.  The other motley characters include: the Three Little Pigs played by Audrey Murphy from Burleson, Reese Hanacik from Bedford, and Rhiana Bullock from Haltom City; Little Red and her Grandmother played by Reagan Hanacik and Mary Steigerwald from Bedford and Colleyville; the Lumberjack played by Bedford resident Boyd Stephens; the Boy Who Cried Wolf and the Shepherd played by Arlington resident Gabriel Toller and Valerie Murphy from Burleson; the Wolfette played by Carmen Saenz from Bedford; and the newscaster Sidney Grimm played by Sabrina Goral from North Richland Hills.  The production is directed by Hurst resident, Lu Anne Tyson, with choreography by Sue Hurst from Grapevine and vocal direction by Paula-Beth Toller from Arlington.

STARS Theater Company invites all interested students ages 8-18 to enjoy a day of fun – acting, singing & dancing this Saturday, September 21.  Come join the current cast of young actors for a day with the STARS.   Visitors are welcome to jump in and participate with the cast or simply watch if they prefer.   It’s a special day to get to know the staff and students of the youth theater company.  

STARS Theater Company is an educational theater for young people.  The company includes two groups, the Shooting STARS, ages 8-12, and Teen STARS, ages 13-18.  Shooting STARS meet 9:00am-noon and Teens meet noon-4:30pm.  Interested students are invited to spend the day, this Saturday, with the option to join the production if interested.
